Microsoft is doubling down on incorporating a 'growth mindset' into its employee performance evaluations. I don’t love buzzwords, but I do love a growth mindset.I believe another way to evaluate a growth mindset is through two key traits: horsepower and hunger. You need both.When hiring new team members, I focus on this combination of horsepower and hunger. While I once emphasized 'curiosity,' I realized it doesn't adequately determine someone's ability to bridge the knowing/doing gap. What I look for now is a 'quiet, capable confidence'—the belief in continuous development through effort and learning.Once the right people are on board, cohesion and alignment become my primary focus. We share a belief that we can learn anything, fueled by mutual trust in each other’s capabilities and intentions.Clear prioritization is my next step. It ensures that we're working on the most impactful tasks to move the business forward. As a co-founder, it's my role to maintain a clear sense of priority and to remove barriers swiftly.With alignment and a shared goal, our collective intelligence enables us to deliver high-quality work at an impressive pace. I encourage my team to feel autonomous, to take risks, and to implement their best ideas.The notion of a '10x engineer' often serves as a benchmark for individual performance. While individual contributions matter, I'm more excited about the exponential potential of a well-aligned team. The equation 1+1+1+1+1=10,000 captures this sentiment perfectly.We are in an era of rapid intelligence acceleration. The opportunity to apply this ever-growing knowledge base to our business is exhilarating. Rarely do we get the chance to learn and immediately apply new insights in a collaborative setting.

A few weeks ago, Chris, Matt, and I got the chance to sit down with Ali Kaplan to record an episode of By All Means to talk about the origin story of Omnia. It was such an honor to me because I am such a fan of this podcast and have listened to every episode (112 episodes, to be exact). Allison Kaplan and Twin Cities Business have been such great supporters of Omnia from the beginning. And before Omnia, going way back, Ali has been an enormous supporter and enthusiast of my previous startups. She is a champion of many people and businesses in the Twin Cities startup community.The three of us don't spend much time looking back (or down) as we've built Omnia over the past 4+ years. But this was fun and meaningful to do, and it made me grateful to be able to build this business with these guys and even more grateful for the incredible team that has joined us along the way. These are the most intelligent people I've ever worked with in my career.I wake up excited every day to get to work. Over the past 30 years (yikes), I've witnessed more hype cycles in tech than I can count. It truly is the most exciting time I can remember to be building. It is a privilege to apply this progress directly to our business.It is fun to reflect, but it always is Day 1 at Omnia.

Our recent investments in machine learning and data science (🎩Matthew Cox) have brought to light the power of our operations and merchandising (🏆Chris Morgal, Pete Przepiora, Jacob Bros, Joe Ponessa) when combined with personalization and contextualization (🥇Matt Hamilton, Mark Prondzinski, Jeremiah Wingett, Patrick Mazurek, Johnathan Boyd) It's exciting to see the Omnia flywheel turning faster and faster as we capitalize on our rapidly growing pipeline of UGC. I'm looking forward to rolling out this type of reporting at scale including the excellent infographics analysis designed by Brad Novak and Sydney Sullivan.

Increasing our customer level of satisfaction is something we obsess about. We do this in big and small ways with every customer interaction. With this new partnership we are excited to be able to add a Jack Link's Protein Snacks product with every order we ship.

We've been on a roll at Omnia Fishing on many fronts, but particularly in hiring to build out our data science, product, and engineering teams. Our most recent addition comes in the form of Connor Mullins who joins us from the Bay Area as Lead Mobile Developer.My search for this role took many months and involved talking to several extremely talented candidates. Connor was by far and away my first choice and I couldn't be happier to get the chance to work with him.We're very lucky to have him join our team and I look forward to watching him help us blow mobile out of the water!
